1985 Buick Riviera

My 1985 Buick Riviera has been in my family since 1995 and has been a restoration project the past few years. I hope to have it complete and back on the road soon.

As a member of the sixth generation from 1979-1985. The 1979 model year was the first Riviera debuted the first front wheel drive model, which was also the first Buick model in production which offered front wheel drive. It was built on a 114 in wheelbase and platform which shared with Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Toronado. The Olds 403 and Buick 350 were dropped but the Olds 350 remained. A new turbocharged Buick 231CU was born and was installed in the Riviera S-Type. The Riviera became Motor Trend's car of the year. Sales more than doubled for the 1979 and 1980 years.

In 1981 the Turbo was renamed to T-Type and brought the demise of the 350 engine in favor of the Olds built 307CU which was phased in during 1980.
